An AI agent is not a chatbot with better wording. It is software that holds a conversation, reads and writes to the systems a business already runs, and finishes a task instead of only answering a question. That difference decides whether your team still has work to do after the conversation ends.
This glossary exists because the language around AI in the UAE has become loose. Suppliers describe a scripted menu as an AI agent. Buyers are told a chatbot will qualify leads, book appointments and update a CRM when it can do none of those things. When the words are vague, quotes cannot be compared and expectations get set by whoever writes the best headline.
Every term below is written the way we use it with clients in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, not the way it appears in a product brochure. Where a word has a narrow technical meaning, we say so. Where an industry phrase is used loosely, we give the honest definition and the UAE example that shows what it means in practice.
If you are comparing proposals, these are the definitions to hold suppliers to. Ask any provider what they mean by agent, connected and approval, and the conversation gets much shorter.
